How Cambodia Was Meant to Be Seen
If you’re anything like me, you might find yourself daydream occasionally, picturing yourself sipping on a fruity drink, going to the spa, and just unplugging from the rest of the world. It seems like the thing of fantasies. But this retreat to Song Saa (coupled with a fantastic tour of Siem Reap) is beyond even my wildest dreams. Traveloti has you covered with an awesome trip for two on a wellness retreat in Cambodia.
Song Saa, for one thing, is its own private island, dotted with a few very private villas in one of the more remote areas on Earth (you’ll take a helicopter to arrive there). The time you spend there will be relaxed and scheduled as you want it. Want a spa day just to yourself? Want to snorkel off the coast of the resort site? Looking to brush up on your yoga? You can do all of these things and more – this retreat is all about you.
Before this retreat, you’ll spend an amazing few days in Siem Reap, where you’ll be able to visit the iconic Angkor Wat. Marvel at the immense monuments and take a second to appreciate the history you’re standing in. Snap photos at these gorgeous temples, but don’t forget to take the opportunity to learn more about Buddhism, one of the world’s largest religions.

Take in the breathtaking views of Siem Reap as your driver tells you about the area and its history. The 12th century capital, the culmination of five centuries of Khmer civilization, is living testimony to Cambodia’s ancestry as well as the foundation of their deeply philosophical identity; housing over 100 stone temples it reveals a religious kingdom of the most significant remaining Khmer architecture in the world. Amansara provides a gracious contemporary gateway to this truly remarkable ancient epoch.
After breakfast, visit the intricately carved Khmer ruins at Angkor Wat – one of the modern wonders and most important religious monuments – with a renowned Khmer scholar. He will be able to share his vast experience and give you a concise overview of Khmer history, culture, archaeology and civilization. Enjoy a private gourmet picnic lunch in a wonderful setting on the grounds of the temples of Angkor. Your exploration continues with a visit to Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. Then drive to Angkor Thom, the ancient royal city of Khmer Empire. ou will end the day with a visit to the Ancient Royal City’s centre piece; the Bayon temple.
Start the day early with a transfer to Prasat Kravan. This small and simple, yet well preserved temple was built in the 10th century. Wander around the village and observe the very local and primitive lifestyle of the people. After lunch, explore Neak Poan, which is an artificial island unlike any other temple in the Angkor area. Walk the boardwalk back to the vehicle and visit Preah Khan. This jewel is often neglected but worth a full exploration. Exit the temple on the east side where a bicycle awaits. An adventurous yet convenient path connects Preah Kahn with The Victory Gate. Just in time of sunset, walk over the Eastern wall towards the East Gate. Enjoy the last moments of the day in utter peace while the sun sets over the jungle of Angkor.
This morning, enjoy breakfast at Khmer Village House and free at leisure until you will be transferred to the airport for the private helicopter to Koh Rong Island. Arrive at your final destination of the Koh Rong Archipelago in the Gulf of Thailand, take a short speedboat ride to the Song Saa Private Island Resort, and spend the next 7 nights in complete island relaxation. The Song Saa Resort consists of 27 villas, each with a private swimming pool. Constructed using recycled materials from the local region and designed with state-of-the-art sustainable building practices, Song Saa Private Island’s natural finishes and traditional aesthetic ensure the resort blends seamlessly into its surrounds and lives up to its ethos, ‘luxury that treads lightly’.
Each day you spend at Song Saa is about your wellness and leisure, to spend as you choose. Then, consider exploring the pristine clear waters that surround you on all sides at this amazing getaway. The resort sits on incredible reefs that are home to diverse and interesting wildlife. In the seagrass meadows, it isn’t unusual to find some green turtles. Snorkeling is the best way to see the beautiful world below the surface.
Today, focus on the restorative qualities of Song Saa. The Song Saa Sanctuaries provide a truly world-class spa offering, boasting regenerative sites, outdoor salas, and discreet treatment villas nestled in the serenity of the rainforest and along the ocean shore. Included in this package are a variety of treatments, including, a Manipura massage, a Mett Massage, and an ILA Experience (scrub, massage, facial). Rejuvenation of mind and body is key during your stay.
Your spiritual wellbeing is just important as your physical. Buddhism and its tenants are practiced at Song Saa. You will have the opportunity to join in the rituals and learn about the religion firsthand. Buddhist monks will perform a blessing for you during your stay. Your knowledge about Buddhism gained in Siem Reap will pair perfectly with the scenery and tranquility of the ceremonies at Song Saa.
Song Saa is a fantastic place to practice yoga. Sunrise yoga sessions are complimentary to all guests. You’re also free to enjoy standup paddleboard yoga, a wonderful marriage of these two peaceful activities. You’ll find yourself saying “namaste” soon enough.
The cuisine at Song Saa is top notch, despite how cut off the resort is from the rest of the world. You will enjoy three gourmet meals per day during your stay. After delighting in authentic Cambodian cuisine this week, you’ll have the opportunity to take a Khmer cooking class with the chefs on site. They will share their secrets to the healthy and balanced meals you’ve been eating, and you can learn techniques for how to cook in this way yourself.
On your last day, prepare for your departure by meditating and seeking your last inner peace at Song Saa. Though certainly a relaxing trip, the experiences you’ve had here are meant to transition to your life when you return home. Song Saa is a transformative experience, and one that will make you live mindfully upon your return. The next morning after breakfast, you will be taking a short speedboat ride back to the Koh Rong Island, where you will take the private helicopter back to Siem Reap.
