Mofongos and Mallorcas

Good eats from Puerto Rico, a fusion cuisine that has heavy influence from Spain and Africa. We particularly liked:

Mofongos at Ajili Mojili

Mofongos are made from fried green plantains which is mashed together with broth, garlic, olive oil, and pork cracklings or bits of bacon. It is often filled with vegetables, chicken, or shrimp and is often served with fried meat and chicken broth soup.

Mallorcas at La Bombanera

Authentic local cuisine in an unassuming landmark atmosphere unchanged for decades. Serves lunch and dinner. Fresh pastries and yummy mallorcas that are sweet on the outside and sour on the inside with ham and eggs. Unique but a tasty combo.
