A Mindful Escape To Iceland

Iceland has the distinct feeling of being otherworldly. With its black sand beaches, ancient glaciers, and volcanoes that dot the landscape, there’s something about Iceland that seems as if it was plucked from your favorite sci-fi movie (to be fair, in the case of Interstellar, it was).

You’ll feel like an explorer every day on a trip to Iceland. This itinerary balances the trailblazing with world-class yoga classes and luxurious spa treatments. On this group trip to Iceland, you will have yoga classes to start each day off right, led by certified instructor Erin Lewis. Her aim on these trips is to help yogis of all levels improve their practice and gain new insights. Day trips after each yoga class are a combination of exploration (Southern Shore and Golden Circle) and relaxation (Blue Lagoon and thermal spas). This itinerary finds a perfect equilibrium, so you get the most out of this awesome trip.

DAY 1:

Let your Iceland summer yoga retreat begin! Decompress from your flight by starting your day in the Blue Lagoon Spa. A natural wonder, the Blue Lagoon is a world-famous geothermal spa. It’s no wonder why it’s a must-see for anyone traveling to Iceland. You’ll be staying at the Clinic Hotel, right on site of the Blue Lagoon, so you will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy all the spa has to offer. After your time in the spa, it’s time for orientation and your first yoga class. Afterward, it’s time to feast with a welcome dinner. Note that all meals are vegetarian. At night, return to the Blue Lagoon for a special night spa experience.

DAY 2:

Start your day with morning yoga. After breakfast, it’s off for a grand tour of the Golden Circle. Get your camera ready because you’ll be visiting some of Iceland’s most revered national treasures. Visit the Geysir and Strokkur geysers, the latter erupting every five to ten minutes. Then it’s on to the Gullfloss Waterfall, and later, Thingvellir National Park, located near several volcanic areas. Then it’s back to the hotel for evening yoga and dinner.

DAY 3:

Today, stop by Fridheimar and enjoy lunch at Greenhouse, take a tour of the grounds, and enjoy a horse show. Later, spend time in a thermal spa and afterward, break for dinner. In the evening, you’re in for a different type of yoga class. Yoga Nidra, which focuses on a yogic sleep state of consciousness, will finish off this eventful day.

DAY 4:

After morning yoga and breakfast, you’ll spend another day trip out, this time exploring Iceland’s southern shore. Here you’ll see Iceland’s iconic black sand beaches, find some curious puffins, and scope out some more stunning waterfalls. After this full day, enjoy a dinner out with the rest of your fellow yogis.

DAY 5:

Head out from the Frost & Fire Hotel after yoga and breakfast. Travel on to Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. Reykjavik is a special city brimming with cool modern design, a great coffee shop culture, and great shopping. Take in all of these during a day trip to Reykjavik, where you will have some time to explore with the group and on your own. Check into your hotel in Reykjavik in the evening and settle in for yoga and some spa treatments, followed by your final dinner of the trip.
